Something's Gotta Give

Right now, this is my life:

-School Mon, Wed, and Fri.
-Work Sat and Sun
-Homework and research for school
-House hunting
-Getting our house ready to sell (decluttering, general cleaning, painting, staging)
-Eating
-Sleeping
-Computer time

These are the things I want to add into my life:

-Daily Bible time either by myself or with the NewlyHusband
-Working out at least Mon-Fri.
-Devoting more time to schoolwork

I seriously suck at motivation though. I can spend hours on the computer, although I'm much better than I used to be. I know I need to make Bible and prayer time a priority, but I haven't. I have got to start working out. We've had this conversation here before. I am not a big girl, I realize this. But I am bigger than I used to be. My stomach hurts constantly and I hate wearing jeand cuz they dig into my belly (This is after I've already gone up a pant size).

So help me out, awesome readers. How in the world do you get motivated to give up your favorite foods, give up soda (I've done this before and it made me feel so much better, but it never sticks), get up early and WORK OUT? Why is this soooo hard for me? I just don't know. I think about it and it should be easy.

This is how I would like my days to go:

-Get up early with the NewlyHusband and hit the gym.
-Come home, shower, and eat breakfast.
-Hit the books and get my schoolwork done
-Only after schoolwork is done, get on the computer.
-Go to school (on the days I have school)
-Come home and have dinner with the NewlyHusband
-Do a house project so we can get the house on the market.

This is how my days tend to go
-Wake up when NewlyHusband gets up to go to work
-Do a little homework
-Eat breakfast while watching tv
-Get on the computer
-Go to school
-Come home and have dinner with the NewlyHusband
-Maybe work on the house, maybe chill out.

I drink two sodas a day (Mr Pibb or Cherry Coke). The only workouts I get done are walking from my car to campus for class. I don't eat well. I spend way too much time on my laptop. At the end of the day, I feel fat and unproductive. So I make the decision to change...and I don't.

I am almost in tears writing this, because I hate myself for being so lazy.

Help? How do you do it? How do you make the positive changes in your life that will make you feel better in the long run?

  1. Reading your schedule made me tired! Good lord, girl!

Okay, so I suck at motivation, too. Another blogger wrote a question that she phrased as, "Do I want to ___________ (feel better because I work out, spend time on the house, etc.) or do I want to feel worse when the day is done?" and then make the choice from there. It's helped motivate me.

I also schedule like whoa. And? I don't know if this is an issue for you---but I don't watch any TV except some approved shows that I DVR and watch later AND I limit my laptop time. The first few weeks were hellish, but I'm working out daily, my house is clean and I've read a few books.

Above all? Be gentle on yourself---you've got a lot going on here, girl.

  2. Aw! You are way super by far lazy doll!

I wish I had great motivation but I don't because I can't seem to motivate myself to stay on the 'healthy' bandwagon.

However, if you can get NewlyHusband to be motivated with you then that would help majorly. If Beau will walk or work out with me and not tempt me or eat badly and will eat healthy with me it makes it easier!

Keep your head up! You have a crazy schedule most people would have already gave up on! And you are beautiful just the way you are! :)

  3. That's a heck of a schedule! Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it helps if you add one new thing at a time. Get used to that, then add the next thing.

    Have a great weekend!

  4. You have heaps on your plate, no wonder you dont have time to fit everything in!

Is school within walking distance? maybe you could walk instead of drive.

  5. Dude, good for you, getting a house ready to sell -- that's a full-time job. Just the thought of moving gives me hives. (Maybe because I did it like nine times in three months when I was moving out to Boston. Horrible.)

Whenever I'm in a streak of being strong and motivated about eating right and working out, my mantra to myself is: "You don't have to want to do it. You just have to do it." For some reason, that really helps me remember that toughing it out isn't supposed to be fun. It's almost like I'm challenging myself not to complain.

Then again, it obviously doesn't work forever, considering I'm sitting here at 7am eating gorgonzola crackers!

  6. Oh dear, I know the feeling. I wouldn't say you are lazy with all those things you are doing right now, and you want to add more. I don't have the secret to motivation, I wish I did because there are things I wish I had time/motivation to do.

Maybe try easing yourself into the things you want to do. Small, baby steps. Make rewards for yourself so you have something to look forward to!

Hang in there honey, if these are changes you really want to make, you will! 8)
